Artist Statement

I explore the duality of textures and materials as representations of conversations and diversity.  Hard vs soft; woven vs non-woven; plant vs animal; dark vs light; old vs new and found vs created fabrics are interwoven to create a cohesion of thought.  This is allegorical to my creative consciousness where I explore torn, rusted, printed and dyed fabric I have created and found, in combination with shibori stitched and dyed indigo pieces.  I add the art of the stitch, particularly to incorporate memory into cloth. The use of different materials also reflects the contributions, ideas and thoughts of different individuals within a community or culture to create a place where the viewer can exist in cohesiveness and respect.
